Performance
Pink Dusts
DANIEL JACOBY

As part of the exhibition The total scab–free solidarity and performative silence that struck floor–shows and soundstages from Desert to NJ coast for over half a year, Daniel Jacoby’s underwear-display-inspired installation Pink Dusts is activated. He invited Brussels-based composer Charlie Usher to compose a soundscape and light choreography specifically for it. The luminous and sonic manifestations Usher conceived for this set of hanging LED-enhanced sculptures aim to transport us to the busy environment of Polvos Rosados, the Lima shopping centre from where the project originally emerged. Using sounds extracted from videos of shopping malls around the world, the composer’s atmospheric soundtrack oscillates between immersive drone waves and radio songs, all flattened out by the white noise of an ever-present crowd.
