A Year in the Life of a Plane Tree Outside Our Window: Silent Film Scored by Johanna Monk and Friends

As part of her contribution to The Clock Wife and to begin celebrating the finissage weekend, Johanna Monk will perform for the second time within the exhibition, this time creating a musical score for her late partner Vanita Monk’s film A Year in the Life of a Plane Tree Outside Our Window that spans 60 minutes, the entire duration film. Often authoring works as a duo, even if only rendered by one set of hands, Johanna now continues this collaboration beyond the boundary of life through activating works of Vanita’s in ways such as this.

Biographies

VANITA and JOHANNA MONK made and performed art, music and literature together for thirty-five years until Vanita’s death in 2024. Johanna now continues this collaboration beyond the boundary of life, her practice existing on a continuum from past to future, between estate curation and new works rooted in a personal mythology of love, trauma, healing, violence, transformation, lust, enlightenment and death.
